The month of May has been named the Mental Health Awareness month. As part of this initiative, Dr. Delvena Thomas, Director of DRT Behavioral Services is organizing a one day event called Free Mental Health Fair with other local businesses and organizations, in an effort to put all the pieces of holistic wellbeing together – mental, physical, and spiritual – and provide the community the tools they need to stay healthy and strong. The inspiration behind this initiative was brought about by the fact that Miami-Dade County has the greatest percentage of people with serious mental illness of any metropolitan community in the U.S.
Attending community members will be able to enjoy the following free services: Boot camp @ 10am, blood pressure screenings, BMI and glucose readings, as well as free access to government mental health agencies and private practices of different specialties. Food trucks and refreshments will also be present for locals to enjoy.
