Two years ago local South Florida resident and Urban Pop artist Sergio (SURGE) Quinonez found out his 33-year-old wife had been diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. After undergoing chemo, radiation and a bilateral mastectomy over the span of two years, SURGE’s wife is now cancer free. Together with his wife, SURGE advocates for early mammogram screenings and breast cancer awareness, and that is where a partnership with PDQ came to be.
SURGE, together with PDQ (People Dedicated to Quality) restaurants nationwide, have teamed up to design a “Shake Out Cancer” pink t-shirt to help raise money during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The $6 pink t-shirt features a hand grasping a pink shake and for every t-shirt and milkshake purchased in October, a donation will be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.®(NBCF). The cool thing is after you buy the t-shirt if you come back to PDQ with it in on you will receive a free milkshake with the purchase of any combo meal.
Now, obviously I must recommend a couple of my favorite milkshakes and PDQ menu items for when you head out there. For starters, you have to try the milkshake of the season, which is Apple Pie shake. It is made with Cinnamon Toast Crunch! How could you possibly say no to that? And, if apple isn’t your thing then order the Chocolate Peanut Butter shake.
For your main meal, if you are looking for something a bit lighter then order the Crispy Chicken Salad. But, for those that are looking for the real deal then you have to eat the Spicy Buffalo Tenders Sandwich (pro tip: order an extra tender and add American cheese). You could also order the Crispy Turkey Breast Sandwich if you are looking for that crunch. Keep in mind, all of PDQ’s tenders are hand breaded and treated with the outmost care, so that by the time they make it into your sandwich or salad that are just perfect!
