Enjoy Some Serious Food Porn At Kokai Sushi

I have to be completely honest, when I was invited to check out Kokai Sushi & Lounge in Doral I was a bit hesitant. The last couple of times I had trekked over to this area of Miami I was very disappointed. I am pleased to let you know that I not only had an amazing experience at Kokai, but the dishes were definitely food porn worthy.

So get this, even though the Doral location is only about a month old, this family-owned and managed business dates back 20 years. The family started their restaurant business back in Venezuela where they learned how to craft a new concept of fusion cuisine that redefined the standards of sushi in their country. They have now brought their trained Japanese masters and cooking to Miami, and boy are we happy about that.

Here is the deal, when you go you must order the suzuki fry. This plate is out of this world! What you are eating is deep fried, hand breaded white fish, which is then stuffed with crab, scallions and the topped off with their special cheese sauce. You won’t be able to just have one. And for those of you looking for something lighter then order either the magic sake (thin slices of salmon with green apple in their special house sauce), or the aderezo de atun (perfectly seared thin slices of tuna with pepper in their special house sauce). Did I mention that their ingredients come fresh every day? Their fish is never ever frozen.

Now, let’s talk rolls. I have a few favorites here at Kokai, but the one that really stands out is their ebi kani roll. It comes with shrimp tempura, scallions, spicy mayo, cream cheese and eel, topped with crunchy crab and sweet and sour sauce. Pure heaven. I didn't even need soy sauce! My other favorites are the tropical and dynamite rolls.

And then for dessert you have to try the green tea cheesecake. This isn’t your ordinary cheesecake – large and fluffy, but it’s so much better. The blend of the green tea with the coconut shavings they add is so light you won’t feel bad eating it!
