Even though Cinco de Mayo isn’t celebrated at all in Mexico here in the United States it’s an excuse for us to leave work a bit earlier, and grab some extra beers with friends. All around Miami there are going to be some awesome happenings to celebrate this marvelous Tuesday.

On the Fifth of May, celebrate Mexican pride at The Gale Rooftop’s grand Cinco de Mayo party. Guests will enjoy live music by DJ Pirate Stereo and the Fox Brothers while sipping on tequila and margaritas via the tequila station and build-your-own margarita bar. The party goes over the top with piñatas to break and a dog adoption area. The Cinco de Mayo Party is free. This party is from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m.

In spirit of Mexican pride, the Shelborne Wyndham Grand’s Oasis is commemorating Cinco de Mayo with a fun poolside party. Guests are invited to lounge in a relaxing, social atmosphere with delicious food and drink specials while enjoying a live mariachi band and dancing to the fun Latin beats from the house DJ. Mexican inspired bites by the pool include Carne Asada Tacos with Chili Charred Beef ($16); Chicken Taquitos with Pico De Gallo ($10); and Smashed Avocado with Fire Roasted Salsa and Crispy Tortillas ($7). Bodega Taqueria y Tequila will be throwing the biggest Cinco de Mayo neighborhood block party! On Tuesday, May 5th Bodega will be featuring mariachi band, Fiesta Grande, along with drink specials including $5 Modelos and $6 margaritas all day from the food truck. In the evening, $5 shot specials will start at 6pm along with music and a churro cart outside featuring complimentary churros. In addition, Bodega will be featuring a “shot chair” where two lovely ladies will be pouring tequila shots directly into guests’ mouths. Take a picture in the chair and hashtag #dobellayback to get the chance to receive a free bottle of Dobel tequila. There will also be a piñata, sombreros and maracas for guests!
To soak up all the drinks, Bodega’s full menu will be available as well. Guests can order from a wide variety of tacos including the Al Pastor, spit- broiled pork, charred pineapple, red onion, cilantro, salsa rosada and the Camaron BLT, grilled shrimp, bacon, lettuce, tomato, chipotle-cotija dressing. Radio Bar is offering an alternative to the usual beer drinking on Cinco de Mayo with its monthly mixology class. On Tuesday, May 5th Radio Bar will be hosting its May Mixology Class from 7-8pm. In honor of Cinco de Mayo, the spirit this month will be tequila. Radio bartender, Teddy Collins, and a special guest will be teaching attendees how to make two tequila cocktails with giveaways at the end of the session.

Utilizing crisp seasonal ingredients including watermelon, cilantro, and fresh lime, Head Bartender Martin Gutierrez concocts his delectable Watermelon Cilantro Margarita with a Don Julio Reposado base and a splash of cointreau, making it the ideal cocktail to enjoy on the 5th of May. Price is $14.
Watermelon Cilantro Margarita
2 pieces of fresh watermelon
6 cilantro leaves
2 pieces of fresh lime
Splash of agave nectar
2 oz of don Julio reposado tequila
1 oz of Cointreau
Method: Muddle watermelon, cilantro, and lime in a cocktail shaker. Add 2 oz. of Don Julio Reposado, 1 oz. Cointreau, and a splash of agave nectar. Shake and double strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a watermelon spear and a sprig of cilantro.

3 pieces muddled jalapeño (no seeds)
1 ½ ounces Casamigos Blanco
½ ounce Cointreau
½ ounce simple syrup
1 ½ ounces fresh lime juice
In a shaker, muddle jalapeño.
Add tequila, Cointreau, simple syrup, and fresh lime juice.
Top with ice and shake. Serve in rocks glass over ice.
Garnish w/ jalapeño slice.
1.5 oz Casamigos Blanco
.75 oz. fresh lime juice
.5 oz. Cointreau
.5 oz. simple syrup
5 cucumber wheels
Muddle cucumber with the simple and lime juice.
Combine all ingredients to iced mixing glass.
Shake vigorously and strain over fresh ice.
Garnish with cucumber slice on a bamboo pic.
