Cafeteria Chicken & Waffles

My life the past week has consisted of: work, eat, and sleep – on repeat. And, I can’t say that I'm upset. I have been able to check out different neighborhoods in NYC and explore all of the deliciousness this city has to offer foodie lovers.

Here are a few of my favorite spots thus far:

Jack’s Wife Freda
224 Lafayette St. | New York, NY 10012

This place is packed for brunch, lunch and dinner and they don't take reservations, so keep this is mind. This small lively bistro in the heart of SoHo offers guests American-Mediterranean cooking right on Lafayette. If you have a big appetite go for the Madame Freda, if not, the Jack’s Burger is just as good. And, make sure to pair it with a Hoegaarden.

Ed’s Lobster Bar
222 Lafayette St. | New York, NY 10012

Some may think this spot is a bit pricey, but it is totally worth every dollar. When you come to Ed’s you’re going to eat some of the best lobster in the city. That night I ordered the lobster roll, which was honestly heaven. The lobster wasn't dripping with sauces, and the roll had the perfect amount of butter to it. That with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and you are set.

Papa Poule
189 Lafayette St. | New York, NY 10013

Papa Poule is a French rotisserie take-out and delivery. Don't expect to sit inside as all you can do is order your food and head out. I recommend you order the special of the day and go find a spot on Lafayette to hang out. The Papa Club is so perfect. It comes with rotisserie chicken, kale, tomato confit, avocado, prosciutto chip, pepper aioli, savora mustard sauce on Maman’s homemade sesame brioche. And, make sure to order the potato salad!

Doughnut Plant
379 Grand St. | New York, NY 10002

Words cannot describe the happiness I felt when I went into the Doughnut Plant. You are immediately greeted with the smell of fresh baked doughnuts and coffee. What more could you ask for? Even though I wanted to try 10 different doughnuts I decided to get the Tres Leches (I’m Cuban, you know). Wow. Seriously out of this world. And the iced latte I order was right on point.

La Esquina
114 Kenmare St. | New York, NY 10012

If you are going with a big group here make sure to reserve your table – you have to book weeks in advance. But, if you are like me and you just want to check out the taqueria then you can go right in and order your tacos. I ordered three because they aren’t too big: the bistec, tinga de pollo (which is a bit spicy), and the carnitas. I couldn't event tell you which one is my favorite because they were all so perfect in their own individual way.

119 7th Ave. | New York, NY 10010

I am really loving this posh Chelsea restaurant. Make sure to call for a reservation because this place gets crazy packed, even on the weekdays. I highly suggest you order the mac & cheese, and you would be doing yourself an injustice if you didn't add truffle oil. And then, to top that off, you should order the chicken and waffles. Boom!
